High wind action in Brazil

This October GetWindsurfing had its first trip to Brazil with an excellent group of keen windsurfers from around the world.

Jericoacoara or "Jeri" for short is a small town on Brazils North West coast. It is unique in the fact that there are no roads.....or what many of us class as roads. The entire town is built on a sand dune! Every street is sandy and in order to get to Jeri, you need either a 4x4, dune buggy or you can arrive like a high roller in your own helicopter.

So its a bit of a mission to get to Jeri, but once you get there it is well worth it. The wind here is probably the most consistent high winds some of us have experienced. A typical day would start with hitting the water at 9.30 or 10.00 when the wind is lighter. Usually, 4.4 to 4.8 weather before the wind turns on at 11.00. When the wind does turn on expect to change down a sail size. 4.2 to 3.7 weather is what is likely for the rest of the day.

Well done to all our students who worked hard throughout our coaching week. There was some great progress made by all and it was extremely fun to teach you all in Jeri

We stayed in the Jeri250 windsurf centre run by Edvan and Aurora. It is a small centre but very well equipped with the latest boards from RRD and sails from RRD and Severne. The team were really helpful and friendly and really helped out with the organisation and local knowledge.

After all the action on the water you settle into a routine of watching the sunset in the evenings. Either from the giant sand dune just downwind of Jeri offering a picturesque view of the town or from one of the many beachside bars or portable drinks carts located on the beach offering delicious cocktails and drinks made freshly with fresh fruit.

In town, there are many places to eat and drink that cater for all tastes and budgets. We recommend the local street vendors grilling meat BBQ style or some of the amazing local fish.

Our 2 weeks in Jericoacoara flew by but it's ok as we will be back again for October 2018 to experience more of this special windsurfing location. Come and join the fun with us.
