Fuerteventura

Our courses in Fuerteventura, at Ion Club at Risco Del Paso on the Island of Fuerteventura, offer the perfect start to your year of windsurfing after the european winter.  Fuerteventura, know to most as Fuerte, is famous for top quality windsurfing at Risco del Paso, with flat shallow waters in the tidal lagoon & some small ramps to jump off when sailing on the sea.

Our Fuerte coaching weeks are suitable for intermediate and advanced riders to really progress their windsurfing, from better harnessing and planing control to jumps, gybes and more! A trip to fit all budgets with windsurfing to suit all levels, ensuring progression and enjoyment all round.

GetWindsurfing Coaching

We run the coaching weeks for 5 days with a day off in the middle. This allows rest and recovery to avoid getting too tired throughout the week and gives you an opportunity to practice on your own.

There are usually 2 sessions each day with a break at lunchtime and video and picture feedback when appropriate in the evenings.

The wind usually starts off as a light breeze in the morning that picks up through the day. It is usually planing conditions by 11 am to 1 pm. This gives us the perfect opportunity to do our light wind training before applying these skills in the stronger winds.

We usually coach for about 5 - 6 hours each day, but feel free to do as much or as little as you like.

The Conditions

The spot we sail in is called Risco Del Paso just South of the town of Costa Calma. When the tide is mid to high there is a shallow lagoon that offers great conditions to practice the flat water skills.

Sailing outside of the lagoon gives us great bump and jump conditions with some small waves that build to some jumpable swell further out while the water closer to the beach stays flatter, ideal for those gybes or freestyle.

Equipment

The Ion Club centre at Risco Del Paso has a big selection of the latest Duo Tone sails and Fanatic Boards for all levels and conditions.

For those looking to bring their own equipment please get in touch with us so we can advise you on how best to do this and what to bring.

Travel

Flights to Fuerteventura are cheap for this time of year when booked in advance.

There are buses or taxi options from the airport to Costa Calma. Once you are in Costa Calma there are regular shuttle bus services available with the Ion Club centre to get you from the town to the beach and back again. However, Most of the students on the coaching week will rent a car individually or share. This usually gives the best experience of your holiday and give you a chance to explore.

Accommodation

There are a whole host of options to choose from to suit any budget or preference from 5* hotels, rented apartments and even hostel accommodation.

The Town

In Costa Calma there are lots of options for eating out with some very affordable tapas and pizza restaurants. There is also a good selection of bars and cafes for post windsurfing drinks and parties.

For those that like to self cater there are many small supermarkets in Costa Calma or a big supermarket 20 mins away.

Other Activities

On Fuerteventura there are many beaches in the North of the island that are famous for surf, there is also a good surf beach about 20 mins from Costa Calma perfect for catching waves on a SUP or surfboard.

The Island is also very popular for cycling enthusiasts and there are rental and guiding options for road or mountain bikes in Costa Calma.

It is an easy island to explore and you can drive the whole island in a day.
